# Connect ChatGPT

Add Autom Mate as a custom remote MCP connection in ChatGPT web, then sign in to the Autom Mate workspace you want to use.

## Before you begin

Check the [Autom Mate connection requirements](/userguide/mcp-and-ai-reference/connect-an-ai-client-with-mcp.md). Custom MCP availability depends on your ChatGPT account and workspace controls. If the add option is missing, ask the ChatGPT workspace administrator to check custom plugin/MCP access.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Create the custom MCP connection

Open **Plugins** in ChatGPT web. Choose **+ → Add custom MCP server**. Name it **Autom Mate** and enter `https://mcp.autommate.app/mcp` in the server URL field.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Use OAuth

Use the OAuth connection offered for the server. Do not select an API-key flow or add a custom authorization header. Review ChatGPT's connection warning and create the plugin.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install and authorize

Install the resulting personal or workspace plugin so it can be used in a conversation. When prompted to connect, complete the [Autom Mate workspace and authorization steps](/userguide/mcp-and-ai-reference/connect-an-ai-client-with-mcp/authorize-mcp-access.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check access

In a new chat, use **@** to select the Autom Mate plugin. Ask: **“Show the Hyperflows I can access. Do not run or change anything.”**

Expected result: a successful discovery call and the records your user can access, including a valid empty list when no records are available.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

The current ChatGPT web path is described in [OpenAI's custom MCP guide](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/custom-mcp-server). Account policies and interface names can change independently of Autom Mate.

## If the connection fails

Use [connection troubleshooting](/userguide/mcp-and-ai-reference/connect-an-ai-client-with-mcp/verify-mcp-connection.md). A successful login followed by a rejected tool call is a different problem from a failed OAuth connection: inspect the actual tool error and the Autom Mate user's permissions.

Running a Hyperflow is a separate action from connecting. Follow [Run an existing Hyperflow](/userguide/mcp-and-ai-reference/run-an-existing-autom-through-mcp.md) and review the action before approving it in ChatGPT.
